Choosing toys for 7 year olds is a little more complicated. Is it a toy for a 7 year old boy? Or a gift for a 7 year old girl? These children have grown so much, and not only have opinions but know how to express themselves with a vocabulary of thousands of words. And for the most part, they have left behind the ‘6’s’ and are moving through much more advanced and mature development. So, let the 7 year olds be a part of choosing the toys. They know what toys, games, art, etc that they want…let the picking the gift, be part of the process.

Toys & gifts for seven year olds: These 7 year olds’ hand-eye coordination is getting well-developed. Their balance (after a year of growing and experimenting) is a lot better. They can do more complicated gymnastics like a cartwheel, and their activities are becoming a lot more specific.

But even as they grow and get more comfortable with their surroundings, they still can be quite self-critical. Make sure to keep playing WITH the 7 year old. Play games that you enjoy as well…Games are great. Games that are more complicated or take more reasoning are fantastic.

Also, a 7 year olds learning style becomes more clear-cut, and you need to supply the toys to help foster their individuality. Are they ‘sportsters’ or are they ‘young scientists’ are they ‘animal lovers’ or ‘artists’. Magic toys start to become of interest as the 7 year old gets more advanced with complex problem solving. Their use of language, with nouns and verbs, needs to be fostered. Math games are also fun…just do not be upset when your 7 year old is victorious in a head to head match. Remember, don’t let them win…you won’t be able to for much longer.
