Features and Skills

• First, he/she will just play with the fruit like it was an ordinary pretend food but these fruit pieces are anything but ordinary.
• Show them how the fruit comes apart and you can see that each section of fruit has a number on it. Those numbers are going to help learn number sense, number recognition, counting and relationships.
• Start with the easy one – number recognition. When you pull apart the apple ask him/her what number is on each section of the apple. This will just reinforce what they already know.
• Next, go to counting. This is also to reinforce what they know about counting. How many slices are in the apple, orange etc.
• Make up a game to play with the fruit to just reinforce the concepts they are learning.
