Features and Skills

• Let your toddler dump all the food out of the crates and explore the different items in the toddler toy, Food Groups. Name the different foods as your child picks them up.
• Explain to your child that there are five food groups and that the foods we eat fit into one of these groups. Give him/her some examples, such as hamburgers fit into the meat group and the bun fits into the bread group.
• Play a game with your child in which he/she chooses a food and you put it into the food groups it belongs in.
• Your toddler will enjoy using his/her imagination and pretending that he/she is eating or cooking the food. He/She will love turning the tables and serving you a meal, maybe even in his/her very own five star restaurant. Viola!
• Make a food pyramid on a big piece of paper and put it on the floor. See if your child can put the items back in the correct food group.
• Use each of the boxes and see if your little one can create a balanced meal by putting items from each food group in the crate. The groundwork for eating well later begins early. This toy teaches children how to make good food choices when they are on their own.
