Why our Child-Experts Love It
This Farm Animals Knob Puzzle receives our seal of approval because the large pieces are easy to see, differentiate and easy to manipulate.
We just love safe & durable wooden toys! There is a picture under each puzzle piece, making it easy for your little one to complete this 1st puzzle (don′t forget they are only 1 years old) and it′s super easy to clean-up, too.
Developmental Hint: At this age, it′s not just about doing the puzzle. There is vocabulary (name the animal), sounds (what sound does a cow make) and story telling (about all the animals down on the farm).
Features and Skills
- As far as educational toys go there are two skills that Jumbo Knob Farm Puzzle encourages in your child. The first is matching the piece to the space where it belongs. Begin by taking only one puzzle piece out of the board and handing it to your child. Then help guide your childs hand to the empty spot to replace the piece.
- The second skill that your child can practice is how to orient the piece to make it fit in its spot. You can help him/her by pointing out that the cows head goes on top. To encourage your little one you can say Turn the piece. Almost there.
- Once your child is able to replace one piece successfully try it with two and then work up to all three pieces. Its helpful to use simple words and directions such as Where does the cow go?
- As your little one puts each animal in its space ask what sound the animal makes. Practice the sounds for cow horse and sheep.
- You can also use this puzzle to begin to teach prepositions. For example say The cow is ABOVE of the horse and sheep and The horse is NEXT TO the sheep.
