Description
Batter-up. Parents can feel confident they′re purchasing the safest baseball equipment available. The PVC bat core is covered with foam-mesh padding and colorful tie dye nylon fabric. The patented Fun Gripper surface covers the handle, the "sweet spot" of the bat and the ball. The mega-grip mitt means easy catches. And the ball has a very spongy feel.
Why our Child-Experts Love It
The Bat, Ball & Glove Set receives our seal of approval because it is a great first sports set. The easy grip makes it easier for little hands to catch the ball, and your child will find new ways to play with this set as he/she gets older. This sports set is also a great way for your child to interact with other children. Hit the batting cage out back or have a catch. Let the bonding begin.
Features and Skills
- Begin by introducing just the bat, ball & glove to your child. They will have fun just rolling it along and feeling its interesting texture. Take some time to show your child how to throw the ball both underhand and overhand. Teach him/her to catch the ball using both hands.
- Use tape or chalk to draw large boxes on the wall to use as targets. This will improve your child's aim as he/she practices throwing the ball within the box. You can start with really large boxes and gradually make them smaller. Be sure to notice which arm your child prefers to throw with. And as always, give lots of encouragement!
- Then, introduce your child to the mitt. Show your child how to put his/her hand inside the mitt and use his/her fingers to open and close it. make sure the mitt isn't on his/her throwing hand. Put the ball in the mitt and have your child squeeze it. This will improve your child's hand strength.
- Start by standing close to your child and tossing the ball to him/her. Slowly you can create more distance as your child's catching improves. Foster independent play by showing your child how to throw the ball up in the air and catch by him/herself.
- Bring on the bat! Start by just showing your child how to make contact with the ball on the ground. Then, put the ball in motion. Roll it to your child and have him/her swing at it. This will build hand-eye coordination.
- Place the ball on a cone and teach your child how to swing in the air. Once your little one has mastered this swing, use a larger ball, like the Nobble Gertie, toss it in the air and encourage him/her hit it. Gradually decrease the size of the ball until he/she can make contact with the Saturian ball that comes in the package. Then you're ready for the Major Leagues!
