This brightly colored set of plastic fruit comes apart into segments and can be "peeled," so children can pretend-slice fruit or create fruit salad in the bowl. Our 13-piece set includes a fruit bowl, apple, strawberry, grape, orange, watermelon, peach, pineapple, pear, plum, lemon, banana and a plastic knife that makes a realistic cutting sound. DIMENSIONS: 16.5" X 3.5" X 11.5" PACKAGED
Why our Child-Experts Love It
We just love a good toy that will really spark a child′s imagination through pretend play! First, teach your little one about kitchen safety with his (safe) knife and that knives are sharp. Your child will also be learning about good eating habits to stay healthy...I hear fruit & veggies make you grow! Now your little one can be just like mommy & daddy.
Features and Skills
- This plastic food set has fruit that your child can cut and peel. At first your little one will pull the fruit apart with his/her hands. With practice he/she will learn to use the knife correctly.
- Your toddler’s imagination is growing by leaps and bounds. Encourage him/her to pretend play by combining fruit with other food toys and a cash register to create a grocery store.
- Take the opportunity to use fruit your child is familiar with to expand his/her vocabulary. Your child may be able to identify the fruit and its color, but you can add other descriptive words, such as sweet or sour, and juicy or crunchy.
- Begin to practice your child’s pre-math skills by teaching them about halves and wholes. You can explain to them that each piece of fruit is a whole, but it is made up of two halves.
- Challenge your toddler’s understanding of sub-categories by grouping fruits in different ways. Some have seeds, some don’t, and some you peel, others you don’t have to peel.
- Use the Fun with Fruit set to teach your child some safety tips about food preparation. For example, fruit should be washed before it is eaten and the knife should cut away from you.
