Why we love it
Not only do kids love this toy, parents do too - easy clean up and a space saver! My Home Town is one of the greatest 3 year old toys. These nesting and stacking blocks look like different familiar buildings around town. "Is this the fire house or the country store?" Children can use their imagination to create their own town! It′s hard to find good gifts for 3 year olds, but this toy is one of the best!
Features and Skills
- Dump these MY HOME TOWN blocks out onto the floor and let your child explore the different shapes and colors. Your baby will notice the different pictures on the blocks. You can name these places for your little one, like the firehouse or the grocery.
- Demonstrate for your child how the blocks nestle inside of each other; a great learning exercise. They sort of disappear but then reappear. This teaches object permanence and begins to show size relationships. The large block holds the next size down
- Demonstrate how to stack the blocks one on top of the other with a steady base for balance. Begin by sitting and stacking two or three blocks, then as you add blocks your child will learn to stand up to reach the top.
- Create a sense of bonding by getting down on the floor with your child and building a tower. Your child will giggle and giggle if you let them to knock your tower over. Demolition is almost more fun than construction!
- Ask your child to find the post office and put it next to the pet shop. He will practice listening skills as he follows your directions.
- Soon your child's creativity will blossom as he builds a town on his own. He can lay out the buildings on the road map. Encourage him/her to build with a friend and practice sharing social skills.
- Use other toys you already have to elaborate on the scene and expand your child's imagination. For example, invite a teddy bear to drive through the town you've just built in his car.
