- Fishbowl Fill and Spill is a great intriguing toy to play with for a baby who is finally sitting up on his/her own, even if they are still teetering over a bit. Children love to pull items out of containers and then stuff them back in, which encourages fine motor skills
- Place the fishbowl in front of your new upright sitter and surround your child with pillows. Encourage your child to reach inside the fishbowl and pass the fish from one hand to the other. This will help enhance balance in upright sitting
- Once your baby is more comfortable with sitting in place, move the fishbowl slightly outside his/her base of support. This will help to strengthen the trunk
- Place the bowl even further away so he/she has to push onto his/her arms to retrieve it, this will encourage your child to transition onto propped elbows on his/her stomach, or maybe even quadruped!
- Once your child starts to bear weight through extended arms, move it even further away to encourage crawling.
- This toy is so much fun that your child will still be interested in it once he/she is able to pull to stand at a low table. Encourage your child to use both hands to play with it and this will help standing balance
- You can then move it a foot or two out of reach and encourage your child to cruise along the table to reach it. Pretty soon you can place it on another sturdy surface placed about a foot behind where your child is standing and watch him/her pivot and turn to switch tables to play with it
